I don't really get this. What's the novelty? It's just walking up to someone and punching them in the face, how is that new?

That is pretty good to watch, I hope it's real and not staged (It looks pretty real). Nice to see some little cheeky twat get what's coming to him.

Been reading a lot about these happy slapping things for a few months now and frankly it's that kind of thing that makes me feel ashamed of being British...because it's just so pointless.

I know that the US is a very very violent society on the whole but this kind of pointless mindless thing would not happen here. We live in a pretty rough area of town (Rochester has the highest homicide rate in New York state) and some of the houses we walk past when we venture out look very shady indeed. But at no time in the 4 years I've been here has anyone ever threatened me in any way either verbally or physically as I've been minding my own business.

A few weeks before I left the UK to come and live in the US I was walking down the street in Long Eaton minding my own business. It was early evening and still light and I had my walkman on. A gang of kids came up behind me and a young lad on a bike whizzed past me and punched me hard in the back of the head as he went past. It took me by surprise (obviously) and as the lads ran away I shouted something like "What the fuck did you do that for?" Of course if you dare to say anything back to them they think YOU are the one being cheeky so this young lad (about 16..I was 29 at the time) comes up to me with his chest all puffed out in front of him saying "come on then you wanker...come on then.." being egged on by all his 4 or 5 mates. Now I don't mind admitting I was scared because I am a pretty timid person. And I didn't want to throw the first punch at him. I kept walking and the lad was still getting in my face and in the end he shoved me in the chest. So I belted him one in the face and he went down, to my surprise, (I had never hit anyone before!). His mates ran away and he got up and tried to hit me...I ducked but he caught the frame of my specs and they went flying off into the road..so I ran off to pick them up. As I was crouched down to pick up my specs the kid set about me and kept punching me in the back of the head (I ended up with a huge lump on the back of my head later). When I finally stood up the cunt ran off...and I retreated into a nearby pub cos I knew they were too young to go in there. That kind of made me look forward to leaving England I must say.

I know the British media pump these things up a lot and it's never as bad as they perceive (I expected it to be really dangerous on the streets when we were back 2 years ago...but we didn't see ANY trouble) but I think I actually feel safer walking down a street in the US that I did in the UK. And I never expected that. It wouldn't stop me going back to live in the UK...but I'd make sure that if any twat had a go at me I'd defend myself.

I've gotthat videoon my phone. It's fucking brilliant. The one I have is better quality with normal voices, though. The best thing you can do to people like that is to kick fuck out ofthem; there's always a risk of them carrying weaponds, though. The little shits!

It's just so depressing that people are so pointlessly violent to innocent people. Can you even begin to contemplate walking up to somebody minding their own business and punching them in the face? It astounds me how lacking in any conscience and morals some people are.

I was attacked by some little shit once, he beat me up quite badly. Prior to that he would really torment me whenever he was in my lessons at school and it was horrible because he was so tiny. I'm hardly "buff" but he really was a short streak of piss and would probably have gone down with a gentle slap, the problem was, he had some really hard mates who would definitely have destroyed me had I punched him, so I endured loads of torment for years. He even destroyed a go-cart I made for DT right in front of me, it took me weeks to make. Anyway, one day he just ran up to me and kicked the shit out of me, so I wasn't sure if he was actually quite hard or if I was just rubbish at fighting and I think it's the latter, I can't punch to save my life. Anyway, he got suspended and his mates really tormented me because of it, as if it was my fault he beat me up. Urgh, it makes me so angry.

Now, I'm a really tame, easy going person in real life and I wouldn't hurt a fly but if I ever saw him alone and it was dark, I would definitely punch him (or attempt to) I'd probably try and find a brick or something and floor the cunt. I know it's not the root of the issue but fuck that, some people just don't learn from standard punishment.

But yeah, confrontation like that scares the shit out of me.

I'm the same really. I've never even hit a person, because I've no doubt it wouldn't hurt, and I'd probably fracture my wrist. I honestly don't understand this happy slapping craze. Are these people really that bored? People tell me I'm sad for sitting on my computer for 14 hours a day but I'd rather be a bloody nerd than one of these yobbos, I tell you. The good thing about Australia I've got to admit, is that you can walk down the street with a wad of money in your hand and no one will even look twice. All the kiddy gangs just skateboard, and sit on walls. They don't bother anyone. Teenagers help old women onto buses, and if you're sitting on your own a group of kids will actually offer you to sit with them. Its quite surreal.

Well, here we go again... chav britain. Yeah ok, ridicule me again but lets face it.... I've known people in my own town to be beaten up innocently - its just completely dumfoundingly mad.

I once knew a little shit at my school who lived in a rough part of Essex. He was shorter than me and had a bullying streak. Of course, like Dan, I wouldn't hurt a fly, but I remember one time, he wound me up so much I just flipped and remember pinning him by the neck against the wall. The head of our school gave him so many chances yet he'd been suspended from school many times. I think the last time I had a problem with him was when he attempted to copy every thing I did - now THAT is annoying and he knew it - the little shitbag!
