It was cracking. I think our system definitely works better against teams that actually try to play against us. Baptista is solid, and Rosicky has slotted in perfectly. I think we benefited from not having Henry on really. He was just about reaching match fitness then he went off on the international break (and did well) but came back knackered and unfit again. Adebayor isn't the most naturally gifted player but he works his socks off and I was glad to see him do well today after receiving a bit of stick lately. This formation worked well in europe last season, and it obviously worked well today. I'm not a fan of 4-5-1, but it seems to get results. It'll be interesting to see whether or not Wenger opts for it more often when he has criticised teams for it in the past, but I suspect it was just a case of injuries really. We have Sheffield United, Watford, Charlton and Reading up next so if we can take max points from them, we should be in a good position plus a game still in hand.
It was too bad Liverpool couldn't get a result, but the season starts here for us. |

| Arsenal badly needed that win today, people were beginning to write them off, and I was starting to regard them as on a slightly lower plane than the Big 3 (Chelsea, Manyoo, Liverpool), but obviously theyve proved me wrong. Not convinced with Adebayor, I'm not sure hes got the potential to be a really top player, he looks a bit like a poor mans Kanu, whos playing well at portsmouth. He took his goal well though. Wenger got it spot on tactically, Gray even said before the game that he expected Arsenal to do well with the 5 across midfield, and they did. Arsenal deserved it, Lehman made probably the save of the season to keep them in it at the end. Ronaldo looked sharp for united, he does try hard whatever you say about him, Rooney didnt look matchfit, and looked quite podgy, moreso than usual. |

That was a class save from Lehmann. The replays don't really do it justice when you think about the time he had to get down that low. He is a mental though, but I bloody love him. That "handball" early on was a wrong decision too. I'm sure if any of the ball is on the line then it doesn't count, and Poll was miles away. He only responded after Rooney raised his hands to draw attention to it.
I wouldn't mind seeing this formation used more often, but I think it would probably mean converting Van Persie to more of a winger role like he plays for Holland, because I can't see him playing 2nd fiddle to Henry as a lone striker, especially when Adebayor is probably a better option than RvP too. I just feel bad when players aren't playing really, but I suppose thems the breaks.
Rooney was in a bit of a sulk coming off, and Man Utd definitely miss a defensive midfielder. I think Ronaldo gets slated every time he isn't playing well which is a bit unfair, but it probably comes with the territory of being a showboater. He was at fault for the goal, but he looked like their most dangerous threat really. I'm not sure why they started O'Shea over Carrick either. Liverpool just need a bit more stability. I heard earlier that they haven't had the same starting XI for 93 games now. That's insane. Kuyt looks like a great purchase. We've had our worst start to a season ever but are still ahead of Spurs with a game in hand, which is nice.
Did you see MOTD2 tonight? Chilesy was in top form. There was a cracking commentary bit where Mark Hughes pulled his trousers up, and Tony Gubba tried to claim that he pulled his trousers up in the style of a man content with a job well done or something. Bizarre.
Drogba scored a good goal. Still a CUNT though.
I just can't be bothered with MSN at the moment. It's nothing to do with you lot. Just basically can't drum up the enthusiasm to bother talking to anyone at the mo'. I might pop on in a few days and see whats going down, but apart from our little chats, I really don't miss MSN at all surprisingly. I haven't been going out and meeting people or anything. I don't want you to think I've got a life, because thats not the issue here. Although I am going to see the new series of Never Mind the Buzzcocks being filmed in a week or 2, and possibly going to the Arsenal Porto game if my mate comes through with the tickets. So thats 2 social events in short succession.
She's a good girl, Dan. You look after her. Have you found a replacement for me yet? I don't blame you. I just want to say that whatever you may think of me now, I'll always remember the good times. Members come and go, but the clique lives on...in all our hearts and minds.
Nads, re the sig. Cheers mate! |

I didn't say that. You will all be alright without me. My contribution to the clique has been on a steady decline since I got back from Australia, and I'm having an extended break from the game before I lose it completely.
Oh well. Just grant me one final wish. I've earned this much. Don't replace me with Chris. That's like getting Keano in for Mccarthy. |
