I won a 2GB iPod Nano at the bar on Thursday night. I was pretty chuffed about it...always nice to get something for nothing. I don't need it as I already have a 40GB Creative Nomad so I gave the iPod to Mrs Chappo (turning down the offer of $100 cash for it from some random girl).
Anyway tonight we finally take it out of it's box and connect it up and start to try to transfer music to it. It is...in a word...a bag of shite in my opinion.
The software is crap and comes bundled with the dreaded Quicktime which has to be the worst program ever made. The instructions are none existant. It's so slow in transferring CDs to the PC and when we eventually transferred stuff to the iPod itself it then froze up on us, we had to reset it and lost all we had put on the bloody thing.
Total style over substance. I'm glad I didn't pay for it. Mrs Chappo is most welcome to it.
I'll stick to my Creative. It might be the size of half a brick but it does what it is meant to do ie - plays music.
Fuck you Apple and your trendy white bollocks!!!!! And you ripped off The Beatles!!!!! Bunch of cunts!!!!!

Over an hour after we started this and we still haven't managed to transfer any music files to this piece of crap!
I'm tempted to throw it at the wall!!! _________________ "For all his horses, knighthoods and championships, he hasn't got two of what I've got. And I don't mean balls!" |

Yeah my experiences with them have been frustrating to say the least. In 2003 I bought a 10gb one and it was nothing but hassle, you have to have at least USB 2.0 to make it worthwhile - and I didn't. And unless you're prepared to hunt around for mostly unreliable third party software, you HAVE to use iTunes. iTunes is an abomination, it's clunky, poorly designed and it won't play Windows formats such as WMA. Or at least it wouldn't let me put WMA files on the iPod, it would always want to convert all files to AAC first, which took forever! Then when I finally got my albums on there, the bastard would freeze up on me randomly.
I sold it for £150 on eBay, got the payment, sent the iPod, iPod got lost, I lost the reciept, buyer was really not understanding and practically forced me to raise the money to pay her back by selling my Gamecube! (I'd spent the money as I didn't get her complaint until like two weeks later). She could have just been lying, too, but Paypal force you to pay them.
I bought a USB MP3 pen thingy which has lasted me fucking ages and never breaks and is really easy to upload to.
Yeah iPods can fuck off. |

Creative Zen is so much better. I have the 40gb Creative Zen video player thingy and it's great. My sister has the 'Ipod Shuffle' which if I understand it correctly is like an mp3 player stuck on the shuffle function. I couldn't bear that. _________________ Carlton Palmer doing his impression of a man with brain damage |

Well managed to get an REM album onto the iPod...although it was more through luck than judgement. There was still no way of knowing it was actually on there as all the IPod displays when it is connected to the PC is a "no entry" sign...it's been doing the same thing for the past 4 or 5 hours.
iTunes is complete shite. The idea of it is good but the execution is terrible. It is not intuitive at all..at least not to me and I consider myself to be a reasonably intelligent person and I've had no trouble at all with my Creative player (and that was a refurbished one). Instructions in some kind of language would have been nice instead of crappy illustrations that are open to interpretation.
It's technology for the Starbucks generation that are happy to pay over the odds for something you can get cheaper and better elsewhere.
Ho hum....I don't know what all the fuss is about really.
I WAS pretty excited to win this but it's a huge anti climax. The thing is I'm pretty sure we'll win another eventually as we are regulars in the bar and we won 5 bikes when they were giving those away. Ebay it will be....or if a random person comes up and offers me $100 for it they can have it... or we can give them out as Xmas and Birthday pressies.

Fuck me. What sort of a bar is that? Do they give away houses?
I dunno why mp3 software doesn't just function as basic as is necessary. Drag the mp3 files onto your thing, and it copies it over. All this bloated software is a pain in the arse, and it always installs ten other things you don't need like some shitty jukebox that does the exact same thing as every other piece of music software out there, but loads up every time you turn your computer on. _________________ Carlton Palmer doing his impression of a man with brain damage |

It's great bar :
http://www.jeremiahstavern.com/
We used to live right around the corner from it but since we moved house we have to drive there now.....but it's worth it.
Thursday is the giveaway night. You get given a couple of raffle tickets as you walk in the door and they draw for prizes every 20 mins or so.
We've won shit loads in there....5 bikes (we kept 2, sold 2 and gave one away), the iPod, 3 coach trips to New York City and countless tickets for sports events, concerts and the like...too many to remember.
We're on a good streak at the moment actually because just before I won the iPod Mrs Chappo won $120 on the Quickdraw lottery.
We went in there and spent $8 (I had 4 pints...it's cheap in there) and walked out of there with $120 and an iPod....not a bad night really :)
Anyway, I was putting stuff on my Creative player this morning and it is far easier to do than on the Apple software. Just drag and drop files. I've heard some of the third party software for the Creative is really good but I've never tried it. _________________ "For all his horses, knighthoods and championships, he hasn't got two of what I've got. That sounds fucking superb.
Has anybody ever been to one of these sort of fake/dodgy auctions before? I went to one and it really was quite surreal. It was run by some dodgy englishmen, and they must have made an absolute mint. I was already wary so I didn't part with any money but they tricked so many people. _________________ Carlton Palmer doing his impression of a man with brain damage |

Honestly it's not worth explaining, just be careful if you go to an auction run by shifty white people because there's a scam going on somewhere there. _________________ Carlton Palmer doing his impression of a man with brain damage |

| I once had two blokes in a van pull up next to me and try and sell me some speakers, I said no and walked on and they caught up with me and tried again. I just ignored them but they had a van, I thought they might throw me in the back and give me a damn good thrashing. Twas not to be, though. They just looked the types, although economic sense should have told me their profit margin would suffer if they made a point of breaking the legs of every lost customer. |

That happened alot around where I used to work. Thank god it never happened to me personally because I would definitely be going home with a new pair of speakers. I did have somebody stop their car next to me and ask me for the time though, which in street talk means give me your phone/rolex. I carried on walking and heard the car spin around at the end of the road so assuming he was coming back to duff me up I legged it around a corner and hid behind a parked car. He rode by slowly without noticing me. I don't want to sound smug, but I felt extremely satisfied with the way I handled that. It did take me about an hour to get home though, going from car to car, using bushes as cover. I didn't leave my room for about 6 weeks either. Why are the general public so fucking horrible? _________________ Carlton Palmer doing his impression of a man with brain damage |

| Haha. I know what you mean, you do something actually quite cool but you can't follow it up without looking pathetic. That isn't going to make sense because I can't think of a good example. Sort of looking seeing a branch in your view just in time to make a suave swoop around it, only to be whacked in the face by another one. That's my whole life, near-cool moments. |
