forum is all but dead; a list of things that we hate is a sure winner

people who over-compensate are the worst. there was this fat black woman on the wright stuff this morning who went on this huge rant about how unbelievably happy she is and how sexy she is and how perfect she is, and everybody just laughed with her and clapped, but if she was thin they'd all be sneering and calling her a narcissist. it's so blatant that she'd be thin if she could be; why should we encourage people to be proud of being overweight?

i've mentioned this one before, but: people walking in front of me who keep looking over their shoulder nervously. YOU DON'T OWN THE PAVEMENT, EXPECT OTHER PEOPLE TO BE BEHIND AND IN FRONT. there was one time though when there was a girl ahead of me in a quiet, dark road and i was going to overtake her, could see she was nervous and sped up a bit, so i got my phone out and faked a conversation pretending to be happy "hiya! oh really? i'll see you later then" so she didn't think i was a rapist and or murderer. i walked past and then considered going back and explaining what i just did in a surreal twist of meta sociological idiocy, but i figured that might not be welcomed with much more than a pepper spray attack.

oh OH and bread from Asda. what the fuck is that shit, it tastes of sawdust

Yeah I bet a lot of the people that were clapping for the fat woman were thinking "I'm glad I'm not her size" too!

I could happily post in this thread all day but for starters....

I hate those TV shows that are an hour long but in reality only have about 15-20 minutes of material in them. The rest of the time is taken up with "and coming up after the break" segments. In some American shows they have these segments before AND after the breaks and there are 3 breaks every half an hour. Plus you always get the "highlights" segments at the start and end of the show too. So there is:

"and coming up in this show/episode"

"and coming up after the break"

"and coming up in this segment"

"and coming up after the break" etc etc etc etc etc.

It drives me mental. Fucking television over here treats you like you are a retard with a 10 second attention span.

----

Talking of that I'm fed up with the way shows are hyped and advertised too. There is a new show on NBC called 'Lipstick Jungle' and it starts tonight. It's from the writers of 'Sex In The City' and looks shit...the usual "almost menopausal middle aged women empowering themselves by shagging lots of younger men and buying expensive designer clothes" sort of program. Anyway, they have been hyping it up for MONTHS and doing it really intrusively too. EVERY ad break since Xmas has included an ad for this show. And nearly every prime time program on NBC includes one of those little banner adverts that appears at the bottom of the screen at random intervals to remind you that it's going to be on. And the worse thing of all is that before the show airs tonight they are showing highlights from the launch party. So it's the actors turning up at a swanky club on a red carpet in expensive dresses and suits, being interviewed and telling us all how wonderful this new show is.

The fucking show hasn't even aired yet! Let the viewers decide if it's any good or not by watching the fucking thing!!!! If it's a hit then have a party and put it on the telly...but not before the show airs.

I was getting so pissed off with it last night that at one point I yelled at the TV "WE KNOW IT'S ON TOMORROW NIGHT FOR FUCKS SAKE!!!!!" and threw the TV remote at the wall! Evil or Very Mad

It reminds me of when they launched the American version of 'Coupling' and were making out it was going to be the new 'Friends'. All the unknown actors from the cast did a publicity blitz and looked really smug about landing a role in what was sure to be a hit. You could almost see them counting the money they were going to make in their heads. It flopped spectacularly. Fuckers!

I'm really hoping it goes the way of 90% of the shows launched and gets pulled after 2 or 3 episodes, but I have a feeling that it's going to be really popular. Depressing :(

that coupling remake is ridiculous, coupling is a remake of friends for god sake.

the intrusive hype machine is here, too. the only thing we don't have so much of is those annoying distracting banners during the show that you get on american television. but yeah they squeeze the credits to fuck add about two new windows and start telling you what's next and what's on another channel. the other night the more4 announcer talked all over a really poignant sopranos end, which pissed me off. incidentally maybe this is something for another thread but i've only recently 'discovered' the sopranos and it's one of the best things ever. i usually hate these long american dramas but god, it's amazing.

I have never ever seen an episode of The Sopranos. It's one of those shows that I'm "saving for a rainy year". I'll get around to it eventually.

if you ever fancy kickstarting your taste for it, try and download/get hold of the episodes 'members only' and 'join the club' which is the first two episode of the sixth (last) season. i guarantee you'll want to watch 'em all

i always assumed it would be mafia blokes staring each other out, whacking off people who don't pay up and all that shit but it's actually really thoughtful and clever.

Awww...aren't you sweet! How's the love life going?? Cute new avatar btw.

What's that? How's my love life?? Well if all the hours I've logged on Facebook is any indication, clearly not so good. Actually I can't complain...it's just life...c'est la vie!!

So get this - one of the attorneys I work for is on Facebook...it's a bit weird...I can see when he's not working. And it's a little odd to see one's "boss" looking kinda "out of character" on there....just a little weird. I guess this is life in the new-age world eh???
