I'm almost too excited about this World Cup. It's a bit scary really. I can't fucking wait. I know that England will probably crash out earlier than they should, but I just love the whole atmosphere of the thing.
It's literally all I've been talking about for the past month, it's a shame no one here gives a fuck about it. Mrs Chappo has to endure me watching my football DVDs every night and banging on about 4-4-2 v 4-5-1 and whether or not Lampard and Gerrard can play together in an effective midfield...and bless her she puts up with it!
I think I've found a bar in the city that will show all the games live so I'll hopefully get my fill of games. _________________ "For all his horses, knighthoods and championships, he hasn't got two of what I've got. And I don't mean balls!" |

Yeah, I can't wait. I'm going to attempt to watch every single match. I missed the last one through work. _________________ Carlton Palmer doing his impression of a man with brain damage |

| I usually watch all the games, plus I've got vested interest in Australia as well as England since I was drawn them in a sweepstake. |

I attempted to get a sweepstake going at my workplace.....never gonna happen....never gonna happen. They just don't get it at all because none of the games end up with a 115 - 93 scoreline. And they can't get their heads around the fact that some games can end up as 0-0 ties. Theres a sports pundit here on telly called Jim Rome who HATES football...one of the biggest twats on earth believe me!!!! Just google his name you'll see what an absolute cunt he is by his photo.
I'm going to hang my big St Georges cross flag on my cubicle wall at work on Friday and my Mum sent me those magnetic flags for the car too. There's a load of taffs that work on the floor above so that will piss them off a bit :) I'll look like a prick but I don't care. It's more fun when you're the only one.
Saturday morning I will have to be at the pub for the 8.00 am kick off time. I remember clearly during the last world cup when the games kicked off at about 6.30am our time and there were about 40 Brits in this bar on a weekday morning and they were serving beer. Shortly before the kick off time they blasted out "Vindaloo" through the pubs PA system, all of us were singing along and we got some very funny looks from the yanks that were passing on their way to work. I didn't have a job at that point....I think in honestly I was avoiding applying for any until the World Cup had finished. :)
happy times :) _________________ "For all his horses, knighthoods and championships, he hasn't got two of what I've got. And I don't mean balls!" |

| 6.30am? I'm pretty sure I remember some games starting here at about 7.30, but then there were games that took place in the afternoon, I suppose. |

From Jim Rome's website:
| Quote: | | Jim Rome is the leading opinion-maker of his generation. As host of the nation’s premiere sports radio talk show, Rome is known for his aggressive, informed, rapid-fire dialogue. |
Wait, there's more!
| Quote: | | But these are no ordinary listeners; they are a legion of fans known as the clones who live and breath for Jim Rome’s “take” on the day’s larger issues of sport. |
| Quote: | | Rome has made a cameo appearance along side Michael Jordan in Space Jam; appeared in Blink 182’s music video; appeared on HBO’s Arliss; and released a CD, Welcome to the Jungle, which features memorable sound bites from frequent callers and the hip music regularly used on the radio show. |

| Apparently Australia have just injured three Dutch players in a friendly. Well done lads. They're trying to physically take everyone down. |

chapster, american sports coverage is full of these dickheads who beleive they are more important that the sport they are covering. Obviously you know that, as you live there. Theres a bloke on CBS who actually writes down amusing jokes and metaphors, to use on the sportscast, because he cant think of them on the spot. Its cringeworthy when you hear him say one, cos its so blatantly out of context. _________________ When the weather outside is frightful,

Yeah. I know it's painful to watch sometimes.
Mr Rome:
I can handle the fact that he doesn't like *ahem* "soccer" but he just badmouths it at every opportunity and he's always banging on about hooligans and fan violence to knock the whole game. I remember seeing him on TV shortly before the last World Cup and he said something like "Well I won't be mentioning on my show from now on" with that sanctamonious look on his face. How can you have a sports show and not report anything about the biggest sporting event in the world? Especially as the USA had a pretty decent team that tournament.
Like you said though the shows of this type are all about the ego of the presenter and not about the subject of the programme. It's like the presenters of the political talk radio shows that will immediately cut off anyone with a differing point of view to them.
I'd sooner put up with Ian Wright any day. :)
Mrs Chappo did have an interesting question though the other night. She asked me what I'd do if the USA won the World Cup.....I was left almost speechless at the thought I have to say _________________ "For all his horses, knighthoods and championships, he hasn't got two of what I've got.
