To be honest, I could make a whole compilation out of Smiths songs and it'd be as good as any mixed compilation.

Animal Collective. They're stunning, and I can't believe I haven't recommended them yet.

Argh, my upload speeds today are cack, I'll upload a song tomorrow.

Bit of an advertisment for my very own bootleg recording of the Wilco show in London, ON, Canada which is now torrented here:

http://bt.viachicago.org/details.php!id=538 - you'll probably need to register.

Recorded as usual with my trusty Minidisc recorder last weekend 8th July.

here are a couple of 30-40 secondish samples "Save Target as..." :

'Company In My Back' :
http://www.filelodge.com/files/room33/919882/Wilco%20-%20Company%20In%20My%20Back%20-%20Sample%20%28London%2C%20ON%2C%202006%29.mp3

'Theologians' :
http://www.filelodge.com/files/room33/919882/Wilco%20-%20Theologians%20-%20sample%20%28London%2C%20ON%2C%202006%29.mp3

If you download the whole show you get the added bonus of hearing Mrs Chappo asking me if I want a beer at one point.

I've never been able to properly get into Wilco. I've tried both YHFT and AGIB, but they don't do much for me. They have some really nice songs, but it never holds together properly.

Yeah. I can understand that. Took me a while to get into AGIB but after I saw them do the songs live it all seemed to make sense. YHF to me is slightly overrated but I just love 'Poor Places' and 'Reservations'.

Very very good live band, the current band line up is just amazing.

God, Chan Marshall's voice is stunning. 'The Greatest' is a terrific album.

Morrissey Fans: My fave Aussie band The Whitlams' new song, called 'Fondness Makes The Heart Grow Absent', sounds A LOT like new-Moz on 'Ringleader Of The Tormentors'. Not in a derivative way, mind. Bloody good lyrics, too.

Incidentally, could that be a more Morrissey-Style songtitle?? We could do an entire thread just dedicated to favourite Moz song titles. Wink

The Pipettes.

If all pop bands had this sort of musical attitude, I'd be very happy. Although they don't seem to have been able to have any real success yet, which is a shame.

Pull Shapes

I Love You

It's weird, I'm not sure what to make of it. Now and again they slip out of what appears to be their normal singing voices and sing in an annoying "street" way, which irks me a bit because it can ruin it. The album's half shit, half great - really great.

The kids should be listening to this instead of that new Razorlight album, which is utter, utter shit.
