La Job spoofs the shenanigans at the Côte-de-Liesse branch of Papiers Jennings Papers, a fictitious multinational carton and packaging company where management is eagerly seeking ways to trim the fat.
Like the original series created by British writer Ricky Gervais, the show takes the point of view of a documentary crew recording the antics of seedy branch manager David Gervais (played by Antoine Vézina) and his motley crew of receptionists, clerks, accountants, sales and marketing employees.
"I saw the original show on DVD and found that it was one of the most risqué and extraordinary shows ever. For me, it's a cult classic," said producer Anne-Marie Losique during one of the show's shooting sessions in Lachine.
La Job has been adapted for a Quebec audience, but Losique says that "we've stayed very faithful to the British series", whose anonymous setting added to the drab office atmosphere. "[Like the original series], the show is also set in the suburbs where nothing ever happens," explained Losique. The suburb in this case is none other than Saint-Laurent!
Since first airing on the BBC back in 2001, The Office has gone on to win numerous awards and an American version has also since been broadcast.
Twelve 30-minutes episodes of La Job will be broadcast on Bell ExpressVu as of Oct. 13. Reruns will air on Radio-Canada and the Artv network in 2007.
Can't wait for that. _________________ Carlton Palmer doing his impression of a man with brain damage |
