Remember JJ72? Had a cracking debut album (which I've just been listening to), their second album was well...pants, and now they are back but what I've heard of the new stuff isn't doing anything for me.

But the first album was a good 'un. Saw them live a few times and they were excellent. They seemed to have it all going for them : good tunes (October Swimmers, Oxygen, Snow, Undercover Angel are all first rate), a singer with a voice like a possessed choirboy and a very tasty looking bass player.....but then it all seemed to go quiet.

Shame.

Daaaaaaan from that other thread wrote:

It's not as good as Disintegration.

I'm starting to think very little is as good as this. I've listened to it three times today alone, that's insane.

I did dismiss it a bit, a couple of years ago but I'm glad I've given it a bit more time. It's gorgeous. There seems to be elements of shoegazing with the swooshy guitars, which are always perfect for creating atmosphere. I just love any album where when I think of it or when I'm listening to it, it gels together so well as a piece of art that I have a sort of, unexplainable visual image of it in my head. Loveless for example, I think of melting glass when I listen to that.

It's got a couple of hits too, which seamlessly fit in, much to my suprise. Pictures of You is perfect, as is Last Dance and Homesick...and Fascination Street..and Lullaby...fuck it, it's a perfect album. 9.9/10 (nothing's actually perfect, obviously because being perfect makes it imperfect)

I've just realised I'm rambling, but do I care? Swivell! Another Twix etc. I just recommend you all buy it if you haven't heard it yet.

I've always been meaning to get that Disintegration album actually because I've heard so much about it. I'm not much of a Cure fan to be honest, but that could change.

I just recently rediscovered the 'Casual Sex In The Cineplex' album by the Sultans Of Ping FC though.

I don't know what made me think of them again but in the mid 80's I was a fan of Sigue Sigue Sputnik. One of those bands that were pretty self hyped and generally loathed by the press and public at the time.

Just got hold of their first album on CD (my original cassette suffered a nasty tape /orange squash incident many years ago). Actually it all holds up really well and they were probably way ahead of their time in terms of the music they made. 'Love Missile F1-11' and '21st Century Boy' are quality singles and there are some other damn fine Rock N Roll songs on there. Excellent guitar work as well. I actually got a bit of a rush from rediscovering the album...like I was 13 all over again!!! :)

They looked ridiculous of course but I think that was the point.

I remember I was brave/stupid enough to wear a Sigue Sigue Sputnik T_ Shirt at school a few times and that got me much taunting/bullying. It did however make me quite popular with the goth girls though...so I basically had my pick of them... Wink

Good times.....good times.......

I've liked today becuase I heard Doves' Black And White Town for the first in ages, completely forgetting what a brilliant song it is. Martha Reeves and the Vandellas vibe (or "homage" if you will) is genuinely quite soulful for a third rate indie band, and as much a valid nod to motown as Town Called Malice.

Go on, treat yerself...
