BOSTON -- More than 10 blinking electronic devices planted at bridges and other spots in Boston threw a scare into the city Wednesday in what turned out to be a publicity campaign for a late-night cable cartoon. Most if not all of the devices depict a character giving the finger.

Highways, bridges and a section of the Charles River were shut down and bomb squads were sent in before authorities declared the devices were harmless.

"It's a hoax -- and it's not funny," said Gov. Deval Patrick, who said he'll speak to the state's attorney general "about what recourse we may have."

LOL. I feel a bit sorry for the people of Boston being embarrassed like this by their governor.
They actually blew up at least one of these things in a controlled explosion because they thought they were bombs.
Are you telling me that none of the experts from the bomb squad could see that an LED screen with a cartoon character on it wasn't actually a bomb?
Apparantely these things had been in place for 2 or 3 weeks without anyone noticing or caring...and then they are spotted and they almost close the city down!
They are also in 9 other cities and no one in any of those places has felt the need to send Jack Bauer in to deal with them.

Amazing really.
