Fucking Come On!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just tonight learned that I had messed up my kick off times and the games are kicking off an hour later than I had originally thought. So our kick off times here in US of Stateside will be 9am, 12pm and 3pm. Which means for the group games I will only need to take 1 day off of work (for the 12pm game).
The bar I thought would have the game on does indeed have ALL the games on live...they even have a little timetable plan of the whole tournament and what game will be on when. They are having a big screen TV delivered tomorrow and they are installing WiFi internet access so that folks that have to connect to work can do so and still watch the game. This all might seem very trivial to you British based folks but over here this is close to football heaven.
I am going to retire to my bed a very happy man. Very Happy

So presumably, that bar will be full of England fans living in America? I doubt there's many Americans wanting to watch the England game that badly.

Yep. The bar is run by an English bloke and has English staff, and there is another English style bar down the road from it with loads more English staff. There are surprisingly quite a few English people that live around this area and they all creep out of the woodwork during the WC / Euro Championships.

Well 3 points. But England weren't good were they?

We didn't play to our strengths at all did we? Too many long balls and too much giving the ball away.

Still a win is a win and it should see us get out of the group stages...but we have to improve if we are going to make it much further than that.

Should we be worried or do you all think we have the capacity to improve?

There's no decent explanation for it but we always do badly in the opening match, so I wouldn't worry. If anything this is an improvement on the previous opening games because not only did we get the three points but we should have had an easier win. A win that might have been a bit more secure if Sven didn't take Owen off and start backpeddaling like a train in reverse.

A few annoyances, though. That stadium is a piece of shit. It's even worse than that '86 stadium in Mexico, it looks like the construction site is still up above the field, it's a wreck. You keep missing the ball because it's shady/not shady/shady/not shady and apparently, the people in the stadium can't even see the massive television because it's got too much glare on it.

In the words of many pie guzzling fans, the referee was indeed a wanker. The guy seems to have no concept of advantage play and he convieniently failed to see alot of stuff. Far be it from me to judge someone without even hearing them talk but he did look like a complete prick. Most refs are, it's a control thing. I hope we don't get him again.

Overall it went alright considering. Gerrard didn't have a great game, Lampard's shots were mostly on target but they weren't even close to going in, easy saves for the keeper. Paraguay are quite a dirty team, they tried to dive every five minutes, including that one wanker who dived, looked around to see that they missed and then went back down again.

Were you watching the BBC coverage, Chappo or an American network? They had Gervais and Merchant on to do a special world cup thingy. Merchant did the robo-Crouch. That was about it.

We had to put up with the American ABC coverage. Now I appreciate the fact that I could see the games at all but the commentary was a nightmare. They called Beckham "Michael Beckham" at one point and even called the England team "Germany" at one point ie: "Now Germany are on the ball" or something. It was terrible and they really do not know what they are talking about. They spent the majority of the game talking about how good Beckham is from free kicks and they seemed to talk as though Engand were dominating throughout the game which was obviously far from the case.

But I'll take what I can get and will be there on Thursday to see a hopefully improved performance from our boys.

That Gervais/Merchant sketch was stupid. He did the same old "dance" bit he always mentions (live 8 ) and then there was a terrible bit of dialogue referencing Crouch's dance (passe)

England were shite, but its the first match and I'll take the 3 points. Sven makes the worst substitutions ever. Why bring on Downing and leave Crouch as a lone striker?! He needs an Owen/Walcott style poacher to get those balls he heads down.

Agreed on the stadium by the way. Those shadows were awful. terrible design. When I thought we were playing the ball into space I was amazed to find out there was a Paraguay player lurking in the shadows most of the time. maybe that's why we were so crap today Confused :)

About 50 or 60 people in the bar this morning. A good turn out. Mainly England fans. One Paraguay fan turned up who had to endure some English birds shouting "Who are ya!!??" at him throughout the game. He took it in good spirits although he did give two fingers to the bar in general when England scored..lol :)

Sven's heart really isn't in the game anymore is it. Not really a problem considering McLaren's already doing his bit.

Motty said the ref was becoming biased towards Paraguay...I agreed as he let a couple of fouls go through.

Sven's gonna have a laugh come the Sweden game. Crouch in goal, Hargreaves upfront with Neville and Beckham left back. Mind you, after watching Sweden just get a draw from Trinidad & Tobago we'd probably still win.

Trinidad were, for the most part playing a defensive game but I'm more worried about them than Sweden now. It was the best match so far. They just looked like they really wanted it, even after 70 minutes and down to 10 men they really went for it and even made a few great runs and had one shot come back off the crossbar. Sweden made chances but they didn't seem to be very threatening, their defence are slow.

Tell you what Chappo, I'd rather be watching the American coverage than the fucking ITV coverage. Bunch of useless wankers, they get worse at every tournament. It's like they don't care, they know that people don't have a choice so it's either watch them or watch nothing. Clive Tiddleydiddlydey and Gareth Southgate are a tedious commentating combination without any of the gems you get from Motty and Lawrenson "Somebody tell that man it's hot". Gabby Logan couldn't present a horse and Terry Venebles is like a part time east end gangster.

There I've had my rant. Shit, I haven't checked-have ITV got the final? I'll be sending a turd in a box if they have.

Isn't the final usually on both ITV and BBC? I think it used to be anyway.

Gabby Logan isn't the best presenter but I'd shag her. When she's presenting along with the likes of Andy Townshend and Ally McCoist you can just tell they are metally undressing her when she's talking to them.
