The Beatles - The Ed Sullivan Shows (DVD)

This DVD contains just the Fabs performances on the really big show, complete in "stereo," for the first time. (We could debate the point of "stereo" for TV tapes that were definately recorded and broadcast only in mono, but hey, what the hell.)
Now the pointy eared devil MS did send me a long tech report on how he achieved a goodly improvement of video quality of these 40 year old tapes, as well as a very involved explanation of how the audio was restored.
But all you really care about is how it looks, and sounds.
So suffice to say, if your home theater system is equiped with Dolby Pro Logic II (DPLII), then you will be in an other galaxy when you cue up this baby, and hear the Fabs in some really good faux 5.1.
It seems to me that the final 1964 show, and the 1965 appearance, may sound a bit better than the first two shows, but you should decide for yourself as every system is different.

Trust me on this. It is WELL worth the download. The performances are in STEREO for the first time and sound amazing. I don't know how they did it but they did an excellent job. Also the picture quality of the footage is top notch and way better than any other version I have seen official or otherwise.

Cracking stuff. I've got so much stuff to download, I've actually had to make a list. I dread to think what I'm doing to my bandwidth.

Doesn't it seem a bit odd that there's huge demand for this stuff but Apple don't release any DVDs? I realise how easy it would be to cash in on The Beatles but there's some absolutely brilliant stuff that would be definite value for money. The promo videos for example.

I don't suppose it matters too much, I sort of prefer fuzzy bootleg rarities. They've got a charm that you don't get with offically released stuff.

Yeah. Apple could learn a few things from the bootleggers. I know that when Apple releases stuff they have to go through all sorts of legal processes to get permissions etc so it would be a slower process for them, but even the stuff that they have released has been of dubious worth. I mean, the "Let It Be Naked" was quite enjoyable, but it's not like anyone was clamouring for it to be released. Whereas people have been waiting for the "Let It Be" film to be remastered and come out on DVD for years and there is no sign of it.

The "A Hard Days Night" DVD that came out a few years ago was pretty disappointing in terms of the extras included, none of which featured The Beatles themselves, I've seen more interesting and relevant material on bootleg DVDs.

You've only go to look at the stuff that Dr Ebbetts puts out on CD that sounds infinitely better than what EMI/Apple has released so far. They should just find out who that guy/girl/folks is and hire them to remaster the whole Beatles catalogue for CD.

And "Two Of Us Productions" (TOUP) are putting out Beatles albums in 5.1 audio that by all accounts are absolutely stunning (I've not heard them myself yet but I'm going to buy a surround sound system soon specifically to listen to theses bootlegs).

I'll pretty much buy anything and everything with The Beatles name on it and I know there are others out there who feel the same....so there is a huge demand for this stuff to come out. It's just frustrating.

On the subject of The Beatles, have you seen that interview with McCartney and Noel Edmonds? He's on there to promote Spies Like Us and he clearly hates Edmonds, it's quite funny. I tried sticking it up on YouTube but I get told it's too big, I'll try and compress it.

Yeah, that's it but Linda wasn't on it. I was suprised that they played the full video, was that common practice on chat shows in the 80s? They play about 10 seconds if you're lucky these days.

God I fucking love The Beatles! If anyone ever asks me to name my favourite albums, singles, band or whatever I have to make the proviso that The Beatles are not included because they hovver above everything else and if they were included there wouldn't be room for anyone else.

Having said that though I do listen to and love lots of other music. I'm not just a sad Beatles anorak (well only a little bit).

But I have to say that at the moment I'm going through a strong Beatles phase.

I'm almost creaming myself at the thought of hearing them in surround sound (but we have to buy a house first before I can buy a system :( ).
