"An unfinished tale by J.R.R. Tolkien has been edited by his son into a completed work and will be released next spring, the U.S. and British publishers announced Monday.
Christopher Tolkien has spent the past 30 years working on "The Children of Hurin," an epic tale his father began in 1918 and later abandoned. Excerpts of "The Children of Hurin," which includes the elves and dwarves of Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings" and other works, have been published before.
"It has seemed to me for a long time that there was a good case for presenting my father's long version of the legend of the 'Children of Hurin' as an independent work, between its own covers," Christopher Tolkien said in a statement."

Yeah. He drew the original maps. He also published The Silmarillion after spending years deciphering his dads notes, and did the same with Unfinished Tales and History of Middle Earth. He is great! _________________ Carlton Palmer doing his impression of a man with brain damage |

Yeah I read the first novel from the Ender's Game series years ago. It was quite good, but apparently the sequel and rest of the series kind of sucks.
Read this, Nads! It'll blow your socks off.
DON'T read the spoilers on there, though. _________________ Carlton Palmer doing his impression of a man with brain damage |

well if anything, at least read ender's shadow -- it's fantastic. i think i might like it better than ender's game.
the shadow spinoff series following ender's shadow isn't up to par because it kinda just turns into flashy politicking. but i finished all of them so bleh.
and the ender spinoff series following ender's game is good but it's a bit heavy, it's really deep philosophical stuff which isn't bad, but it can get tiring. i got halfway through xenocide years and years ago and then stopped. |

I should probably pick it back up one day. I hate leaving series unfinished. I want to read Brave New World next though. I saw the film adaptation and I really enjoyed it. The book sounds very interesting. I have to reread all my Tolkien stuff before this new one though. I prefer fantasy over sci fi though, not sure why. I just think I have an unhealthy obsession with anything involving swords/magic. _________________ Carlton Palmer doing his impression of a man with brain damage |

It's so fucking great, honest. I'm actually having to hold back from just typing a massive long rant about how bloody superb it is. I never thought I'd find a saga to rival Lord of the Rings, but that equals it in my opinion, and it isn't finished yet. I lost count of how many times it shocked me, and I'm not ashamed to admit I cried too. It's quite brutal, and doesn't follow the usual fantasy/epic motifs. It's definitely unique with regards to character developmemt and major plots. There is actually very little magic in it, and the only race is humans. It's just full of intrigue and you never know whats coming next because the characters sway from the paths you expect them to take so often. _________________ Carlton Palmer doing his impression of a man with brain damage |

oh good. shady political wheeling and dealing is always great.
i've needed books that follow that route, rather than AND THEN HE SAID THIS AND FLOWERS BLOOMED OUT HIS ARSE.
which is why i like ender's game and ender's shadow so much, the characterization and cold philosophy of it all is never inane. |

Yeah. I don't want to spoil it because its one of those books that you have to go into not knowing what to expect, but just read it alright. You won't regret it! _________________ Carlton Palmer doing his impression of a man with brain damage |
