I was leafing through the outer reaches of my CD collection the other day and wanting to revamp the contents of my mp3 player. I came across the Paul Weller album Stanley Road.
Rather good actually. I remember not being all that keen on it when I bought it.
I know he's probably done better stuff and it signals the start of his "dad rock" stage, but it fairly rocks. In fact it rocked me so much that I had to go and grab my "axe" and do some loud "noodling" incorporating many instances of "widdly bits". I even did that devil horns thing with my hand a few times (not really).
I went to see him live in 1995, not because I really wanted to but because I was asked to accompany a rather attractive young lady to the concert (it was her herself that asked me surprisingly). I wasn't really into the gig..but I'll be honest my thoughts were focused elsewhere. I bet if I went now though I'd really enjoy it as his band were pretty fucking good at the time (a couple out of Ocean Colour Scene). He is a bit of a miserable cunt though isn't he?
Anyway...as you were..... _________________ "For all his horses, knighthoods and championships, he hasn't got two of what I've got. And I don't mean balls!" |

I haven't really liked anything I've heard of his solo stuff.
Did you know The Jam are touring without him? Apparently the singer is out of a Jam tribute band and is literally obsessed with the man, he thinks he is Paul Weller. |

Yeah it's bizarre really. Rick Buckler even formed his own Jam tribute band called 'Gift' or something like that.
How weird/sad that someone that used to be IN the band in question formed a tribute band to that band.
And there are quite a few jam tribute bands out there. One of which is called "The Jaam" and another which is called "The Jamm". Do you see what they did there?
Did I ever tell you that the band I was in supported "The Jamm" once? Yes I think I did! :) _________________ "For all his horses, knighthoods and championships, he hasn't got two of what I've got. And I don't mean balls!" |

I went to see The Zombies play last Thursday and it was like a bad tribute.. so upsetting for a band who made one of the best albums of the 60s... it was all psuedo jazz shite for one half then when they played stuff from Odyssey and Oracle it sounded fucking shite. In fact, a tribute band would have been better. _________________ it took me three attempts to register here. |
