I introduced Mrs Chappo to the phrase "rom com" this morning. I was commenting on an advert for an upcoming shite looking movie that was on the telly. All the yanks will be saying it soon.

Is that really not known over there?

Wow.
I mean, I'd never thought "I wonder if Americans use the phrase rom com" but wow, they don't?
Thrice wow.

I think it's maybe just Mrs Chappo who hadn't heard of it before actually. I'll have to think of some other phrase to introduce into the language now :(

Not yet, but I totally will.

I mean, if I'm prepared to sit through all of Southland Tales, what hope is there?

Beatles musical
This was made, back in the eighties, as Sgt Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band. Almost.
The problem with doing a Beatles musical is the temptation to say, have a character called Prudence, so that you can crowbar in the song Dear Prudence. The entire plot was written in this manner. At one point, after smashing up a place while singing Revolution, one character asks of another "Why did you do that?"
Because the Beatles wrote a song that we had to fit in that's why!
I got through this because I love the Beatles, and wanted to see if they had the balls to cover something like You Know my Name (they didn't).
Some cool sequences, but that's all. The fact at one point someone says "She came in through the bathroom window" says it all.

I've just saw this one last night.

It is a truly ghastly film. It's no secret that I'm a Beatles obsessive but this film almost made me hate their music. They managed to turn every song into some turgid mess with no spirit or emotion. And the way they acted out the lyrics in a literal sense was laughable. The most cringeworthy part for me was when the soldiers were carrying the Statue Of Liberty through Vietnam while singing "She's So Heavy" ughhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!

And the sixties moralizing was done in such a niaeve way.

Over two hours as well!!!!! And they crammed so many songs in and stamped them all into the dirt.

It's not just the savaging of the Beatles spirit that made me hate it though...it was just a bad film all around.

Terrible.

I bought 'King Ralph' for £2 in a HMV bargain bin last year. I had to to try and contain my laughter because I thought I was getting such a good deal - then I watched it. Why do films from my childhood leave me feeling empty after I've watched them? I did knock one out over the main cockney slaaag, though. She's got a cracking set.
