i've only just recently learnt how to use the oven to be honest... in the past few months. it's extremely liberating getting up in the morn...afternoon and putting a tin of beans into the saucepan, cooking them (i time it so that by the time the bread pops up as toast it means the beans are done, that and the bubbles showing they're boiling) and then eating it. you suddenly don't feel so useless... admittedly, pasta and silly oven things are my limits... (i buy ready made roast potatoes, mash potatoes, etc) but i don't feel so inept. i remember when my ex girlfriend taught me how to cook pasta, it was terrifying... thing is.. i don't have much of a tolerance to hot things.. so the steam and the heat and all things associated with cooking kind of scare me.. so it's something i've had to overcome.. and now this flat i'm staying in has no microwave it does push me to use the over more (and it's gas..so i even know how to light the hob too with one of those cool flame pen thingies)... maybe one day i'll move on to making things from scratch, but not for a while, i'm content with what i'm doing right now... (i think)
so i unexpectedly arose at 8am this morning and decided not to go back to bed. even after a wank i felt the need to stay up. but completely at a loss as to what to do. feeling ill so no urge to go out. not really much to do today.. i'm not skint so i could go out and there's a pretty girl trying to get me to do just that.. but i just laid in bed for an hour and just browsed the net a little.. then i heard my "flat mate" (well, it's his flat) get up for a shower before uni so decided to surprise him and get up... now i don't know what to do with myself. i'm watching jeremy kyle and discussing nostalgically how good wwf was as a kid with my flat mate whilst he does his uni work... mornings are boring. i can do those microwaveable pastas and things like noodles/soups that require a kettle but that's about it. i just bought an egg & cress sandwich and now i'm drinking water. i'm trying to be as healthy as possible during the day as i tend to eat crap when i get back home. how bad for you is coffee/tea? i just feel so empty eating salad/fruit. i'd love to get fit and stuff but it seems like such a pointless endeavour whilst i continue to drink/smoke and everything else. i wish i lived in the olden days when being a fat slob wasn't considered as disgusting.
i don't really know what i'm going to do once my job ends. i'll be living in the same place for a while as flathunting is just so depressing. anything that sounds remotely interesting is "women only" "muslim brothers only" "gay houseshare" or ask for hundreds of references and proof of income etc, and as i'm going to be unemployed for a period (though i have money saved up) it's going to be a long drawn out process trying to find a place. i'll have more free time to do what i want for a bit but i'll only end up wasting money pointlessly, sitting around friends houses smoking and playing pro evo. i really miss living with my family! things are so much easier then; you get your meals cooked, clothes cleaned and stuff. everything is such a palarvour now. _________________ Carlton Palmer doing his impression of a man with brain damage |

if my family lived in london i'd live with them. they don't but since i split with my ex, most of my shit is at their house in brighton..but a lot has now found it's way into this flat in seven sisters..and they all seem pretty happy to let me live here pretty much for free..in return i take them to cool parties and get them guestlist for events and whatnot and also on the odd days fill the cupboards full of food and shit. in return i have my very own bed in the living room which is generally considered my "bedroom" when everybody considers bed... they also put up with my erratic lifestyle and whatnot.. which is good... shame it's in fucking seven sisters though, armpit of the world and scary at night time.. i rarely come back here if i'm out cos it's so far away.. and never could really bring a girl back here either.. despite it's well maintained-ness, it's just a bit of a mission... still i like it, good vibe and i've spent four days straight indoors here and not felt the urge to go out at all, which i usually get everywhere else... _________________ it took me three attempts to register here. |

There's a pile of ironing to be done....and if you think I'm going to do it for you you've got another thing coming...you treat this house like a hotel...etc etc.... _________________ "For all his horses, knighthoods and championships, he hasn't got two of what I've got. And I don't mean balls!" |

Getting married makes no difference I'm afraid. But if you DO get married make sure you marry someone taller than you, otherwise you'll constantly be pestered to reach for stuff on high shelves. That's in addition to opening tight lids on jars etc etc.
Unfortunately for me Mrs Chappo is 5ft 2" and I'm 6ft 2".

God, you two make me feel like Delia Smith.
Since I was about 12 I've washed all my own clothes, cooked all my own food (well, not all, but when my mum didn't, I did) and just generally looked after myself. So well done on not making me feel quite so inept.
I've been cooking more meals lately, healthy stuff too and I have to say that eating healthily is really good. You actually feel much better, not just because you know that you're doing something good for your own body but because you can actually feel that goodness. You notice it more when you wake up in the morning, you never feel groggy or down. Well worth doing.
I'm gonna make a great housewife one day. |

Dan sounds like you're on your way to making a true man of yourself...
I can say of all the SO's I've had, they all cooked, cleaned, knew how to do laundry, etc..etc...maybe it's different in the States, but most men I know do cook their own food, eat well, go to the gym, etc.
It is true that looking after yourself makes a big difference. It's not always easy, but nothing worth having in life is, is it? _________________ Android thus disabled... |

I always was pretty good at looking after myself, even when I lived with my parents. My Mum taught me well and it was easy to adjust when I finally moved out. You'd be amazed at what you learn from your parents without realizing it at the time.
I actually do the majority of the chores around our house - hoovering, dusting, laundry, cleaning the bathrooms etc etc. I'm very houseproud and have a far lower tolerance for untidyness than Mrs Chappo does. I'm a bit neurotic about it, like Monica in 'Friends'.
Mrs Chappo cooks most of the meals and looks after the finances. It's a pretty fair system and works for us. Not many domestic squabbles here.

one of my "flat mates" is very neurotic and constantly shouts at me asking me to do the washing up before he sleeps. cos he's the only one who works (or he thinks - another works too, and ones at uni, then there's ME) he thinks he can delegate jobs like a grandpa. like my job this week was to take all the bags down to recycling (which four days later i finally got round to just throwing into the pizza shop's dustbin)... well he shouts at me and then i see the loon has actually done all the washing up himself anyway.. so i found two dirty plates and left them in the sink so when he wakes up at 6am this morning for work whilst i'm all asleep dreaming of nice things like FAB lollies, he's thinking "ronnie you little cunt". _________________ it took me three attempts to register here. |
